Bikaner, April 4, 2026:
The Border Roads Organisation’s Project Chetak celebrated its 47th Raising Day on Saturday in Bikaner, commemorating over four decades of dedicated service in building and maintaining strategic infrastructure across India’s western frontier.
Established on April 4, 1980, the project has played a crucial role in strengthening connectivity and defence preparedness across Rajasthan, Punjab, and northern Gujarat, while also contributing to regional development in border districts.
With its motto, “Chetak ka Prayas, Desh ka Vikas,” Project Chetak has emerged as one of BRO’s largest projects in terms of geographical spread. It currently manages and maintains a road network of over 4,000 km, along with 214 km of ditch-cum-bund infrastructure, a critical component for border-area mobility and security support.
The project plays a strategic role by maintaining key feeder roads leading towards the international border, directly supporting the mobility requirements of the armed forces in sensitive sectors of the western theatre.
Officials noted that continuous efforts are underway to upgrade these routes to National Highway two-lane standards, aimed at improving faster troop movement, logistics efficiency, and all-weather connectivity in forward areas.
