As 2019 draws to a close, I can look back at a very busy and satisfying year for JD Institute of Fashion Technology. The highlight of the year was our annual event, based on the theme “SWITCH” where 600 student designers and exhibitors presented their interpretation of the theme. The focus was on issues that the world is facing due to rapid changes in the industry which have led to concerns related to sustainability, quality, environment, marginalization, etc. and how, as designers and fashion professionals, we can work towards finding solutions through technology, awareness, and innovation.

As we also understand the importance of the forgotten Indian art and crafts we organized numerous workshops to bring awareness among students. Leading industry leaders and ace designers such as Rina Dhaka, Rohit Bal, Sunita Kohli, Rocky S, Payal Jain, Lipika Sud & Manjeet Bhullar among others, visited the campus to interact with the students and multiple webinars introducing digitalized teaching methodologies were conducted across 36 campuses of ours.

We are the official institutional partner of India Fashion Week London, which is a wonderful platform to reach an international audience. Our students have been making waves globally with their designs, particularly this year we have presented Samant Chauhan and the House of Jediiians at the grand finale.

We look forward to creating more creative milestones in 2020. We will continually adapt our curriculum to match growing industry needs and stay relevant in a dynamic global environment, keeping in mind the three pillars of design education – purposeful innovation, ethics, and sustainability. The goal is to collaborate with like-minded global educational partners so our students can widen their horizons and pursue truly international careers. We have collaborated with London College of Fashion for a styling program and Chelsea College of Arts & Science, and other UAL colleges for further associations in other disciplines. Through these collaborations, we aim to take JD Global to the next level.

We are proud to have kick-started the journey with the theme “CHAOS” for The Fashion Awards 2020. The concept of chaos is indeed an extraordinarily challenging one. And perhaps, the most certain way to venture into it is to get rid of our conventional notions of reasoning and start with a clean slate.
