The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India, in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), is set to host the 8th National Community Radio Sammelan on May 3, 2025, at Jio World Convention Centre, Mumbai. The event is being organised under WAVES 2025, the flagship event by MIB, which aims to strengthen the community media landscape in India through innovation, inclusivity, and impact.
A major highlight of the Sammelan will be the presentation of the 10th National Community Radio Awards, recognizing 12 outstanding community radio stations of the country for their exemplary service and contributions to community engagement. The awards will be presented by the Hon'ble Union Minister for Information & Broadcasting, Railways, and Electronics & Information Technology, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, along with the Minister of State for Information & Broadcasting, Dr. L. Murugan.
The event will also be graced by senior officials from the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, including Shri Sanjay Jaju, Secretary, and Shri C. Senthil Rajan, Joint Secretary, who will share their insights and reaffirm the government's commitment to empowering community-driven media initiatives. Dr. Anupama Bhatnagar, Vice Chancellor, IIMC, Dr. Nimish Rustagi, Registrar, IIMC and Prof. (Dr.) Sangeeta Pranvendra, Convenor of the Sammelan will also be present at the event.
The Sammelan will bring together representatives from over 530 community radio stations across the country, serving as a vibrant platform for dialogue, knowledge-sharing, and collaboration. It will celebrate the diverse and powerful role of community radio in promoting local storytelling and grassroots communication.
The 8th National Community Radio Sammelan marks a significant step toward enhancing the reach and effectiveness of community radio as a tool for social change and local empowerment, in line with the vision of WAVES 2025.
